We Are Proud…

We, at The OCT, made a conscious choice to be respectful of the information released about Kevin Ogar’s injury as well as the timing of that information. We did not want to distract from the fundraising efforts which were occurring for Kevin. However, after observing the amount of mis-information and speculation currently circulating, it is time that we quickly and succinctly address certain untruths.

The OCT procured the proper liability insurance which is mandatory for this type of event. We had all necessary state, county and engineering licenses in place. The OCT also had a full medical team on-site, all weekend. Within seconds of the injury there was a medical team by Kevin’s side and the paramedics arrived within minutes.

The OCT will continue to focus on what is important. It is important for us to continue to gather information and facts. It is important to express how proud we are of our volunteers, staff and community who tirelessly worked at The OCT. We are proud of the athletes, many who return year after year, who gave this competition their all and inspire all of us in this community to take our own fitness journey. And mostly, we are proud of Kevin, his family, friends and community who have shown an immense amount of grace under pressure. What is important is that this community has banded together to help one of our own. The OCT is doing everything we can to assist in that effort. We ask that the community continue to respect Kevin and continue the positive efforts to provide assistance to a tremendous athlete who needs our solidarity.

Respectfully,
The 2014 OCT

Throughout the last few days we have been in ongoing contact with Kevin Ogar’s family. Kevin has incredible faith and an amazing support system surrounding him. However, the reality is, Kevin has a long road ahead of him with surgeries, physical therapy, equipment needs and much, much more. We believe in this community and what it stands for and pledge that we will take an active role in Kevin’s ongoing recovery. If you are interested in helping, please visit www.KevinOgar.com to donate. 100% of the donations will go directly to Kevin.

Once again, we would like to express our devastation over what has happened to Kevin. We are like family at the OCT, much like you are in your own gyms. We care for our athletes and care about what happens to them. This horrible accident has us in continual prayer for Kevin and we will keep you updated as the days go on.  Stay strong Kevin.

With Much Love,

The 2014 OCT

Update on Kevin Ogar

1522738_574463159309116_451719839_oAt the end of every year’s OCT we reflect on the amazing feats we see our athletes achieve, celebrate their wins and look forward to what we can bring our community next year. However, this year is different. While we want to celebrate with every athlete, volunteer, spectator and fan, it would not be the right thing to do.

As many already know, one of our competitors and friend, Kevin Ogar, suffered a spinal cord injury while attempting an Olympic Lift. This horrific accident has left us devastated for Kevin, his family, friends, loved ones and his gym community. The 2014 OCT’s full focus is on Kevin’s recovery process and how we can help. Unfortunately, Kevin is uninsured and will require significant funds for his medical journey.

We have received word that a fundraising effort is already underway, in which 100% of the donations will go directly to Kevin. This is expected to be available to the public by this evening. As soon as we have the link we will post it here so that anyone who wishes, may donate.

Rally with us around Kevin, as a community, to show him love, unrelenting support and uplift him as much as we can. Kevin, may your faith keep you strong, may our love fill you up and may the hands of medicine serve you well.

With Much Respect,
The 2014 OCT
